Change this World Charity event

Wesley Chapel Community

Scene on Glass Media, a Tampa Advertising Company, organized and promoted a very special “Change this World” charity event that was hosted by Wesley Chapel Toyota at their dealership in Wesley Chapel. More than 200 volunteers went to work wrapping and packaging 40, 000 meals that will be shipped to thousands of families in Africa. The meals consisted of nutrients, including oatmeal, rice and vitamin powder that would feed a family of four and be able to be kept for three years without spoiling.

Eric Johnson, director of Corporate & Community Relations gave a rallying cry when the total reached 20,000 meals, in front of people young and old, from all walks of life who came together to help those they knew are in need. They reached their goal of 40,000 by the end of the event

Age was not a factor when it came to who helped package these meals, as can be seen with Lauren Kelly, a petite volunteer who came with her parents to help out.

Help Wade Beat Cancer!
Fundraising Events
Wade has always been such a joy to be around, family and friends. He is always the one to make anyone smile and never judge a book by the cover. He has made so many friends throughout his childhood that have grown a deep friendship and connection with him that they will never forget. Once you meet Wade, you never forget that bright white glowing smile or that loving laugh of his that could turn any bad day good. Wade had a tumor removed the end of March 2011. A couple days later he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon cancer. He was then informed that it had spread to his bladder, intestines and lymph-nodes. At 23 years old, Wade, was in disbelief. Unfortunately, this devastating news was true and he knew he had to be strong. He was released from the hospital on March 31st and that day began his long journey to fight this cancer and beat it. Unable to work while undergoing chemotherapy, his friends and family have rallied around him to support him by organizing fundraising events so Wade can focus on his health. As a community, we at OurtownFLA.com encourage you to do what you can to help a fellow neighbor in need. A benefit will be held on May 14 at USF (details on our event calendar) and several car washes at major intersections will be held in our communities this weekend. Every ounce of support helps. Wade could be your son, or brother or friend. Let's beat this cancer and lift Wade up so he has the strength to become a survivor!  Visit Wade's website to donate and offer your support. www.helpwadefight.com

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's
Man & Woman of the Year!
In Just Ten Weeks, Thirteen Outstanding Individuals Raise Nearly $365,000 for Lifesaving Cancer Research. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Suncoast Chapter Announces Local 2011 Man & Woman of the Year!

A Hillsborough County woman and a Pasco County man raised more than $119,500 for blood cancer research and patient services, making them the winners of this year’s Man & Woman of the Year for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Suncoast Chapter. The two winners, Greg Lenners, General Manager of The Shops at Wiregrass, and Nicole Scannell, Owner of Scannell Productions, were announced the top local fundraisers at the Grand Finale Gala, Saurday, April 9, 2011 at The Hyatt Regency Downtown after accepting their nomination nearly ten weeks ago at the official kickoff celebration at Michael Murphy Gallery in South Tampa.  All thirteen candidates were judged solely on their success in generating funds to advance the mission of LLS. In this campaign, every dollar raised counts as one “vote.” The candidates competed in honor of the Society’s Boy of the Year, 5-year old, Stevie Monokandios and Girl of the Year, 3 year-old, Lucila Galban. Both children are blood cancer survivors and sources of inspiration to our candidates and supporters in the community.  Man and Woman of the Year candidates and winners were not alone in their fundraising efforts! Nicole Scannell, of Tampa, and her husband, Jim Parker, rose just over $31,000; Greg Lenners, of Wesley Chapel and his campaign team, consisting of three event chairs and five committee members, rose over $88,000. “We all worked in the same office and would communicate daily on the more critical items while continuing to motivate each other throughout the campaign.” Greg’s impressive total allows him to move into the national level competition for Man & Woman of the Year. “Man & Woman of the Year is a great opportunity for participants to network with other candidates while raising money for a great cause,” said Julie Wills, the Suncoast Chapter’s executive director. “Candidates gain personal and professional exposure in the communities surrounding Tampa Bay while they help others.”

• Houseware Products – Smaller plastic storage/freezer containers; plastic baggies (pint, quart, gallon & 2-gallon size); Mr. Coffee coffee filters (8 – 12 cups), paper napkins; plastic & styro-foam cups; paper plates; plastic forks & spoons; aluminum foil; saran wrap, etc.

"Name" Wesley Chapel
David West, Tom and Sherry Cupler, and Demene Benjamin are joined by uniformed theater staff for the presentation of awards.

To view the photos for this event Click >>> Here

The Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce recently declared a winner in its contest to name Wesley Chapel using a one-word adjective.

The contest was created in partnership with the Cobb Grove 16 movie complex as part of the promotion of “Eat, Pray, Love” starring Julia Roberts. In the movie, Roberts’ character travels the world with a challenge to name each city she visits using a one-word descriptor.

Since Wesley Chapel is a community, not a cyes, can youity, the Chamber of Commerce decided to challenge its members to complete the sentence “Wesley Chapel is the (blank) community.” Nearly 50 different words were submitted, including, for example: friendly, progressive, caring, hopeful, growing, and dynamic.

The winning word was “opportunity” which was submitted by seven different people. A drawing was held to determine which person would receive the prize package.

Tom Cupler of Back on Track Psychology was recognized by theater marketing manager Demene Benjamin and Chamber Executive David West at the Cobb Grove 16 on Friday, Aug. 27. The prize package included a special t-shirt, four movie passes and a $100 gift certificate to Pagelli’s Italiano in the Shops at Wiregrass.

Honorable mention for most creative entry was awarded to Adam Markwardt of T-Mobile Limited. He suggested “Superfloridafragilisticwesleychapeldocious.” He received a t-shirt, a couple of movie passes and a gift certificate to Chili’s.

Morningstar Fisherman Ribbon Cutting

with Wesley Chapel Chamber

To view the photos for this event Click >>> Here
Beautiful place on 10 acres in Dade City, great people doing great things. Come visit Hans and Sigrid and check out how they teach people to fight hunger. Learn how to grown your own plants through aquaponics. Morning Star Fisherman, 33336 Old Saint Joe Road, Dade City, 352-523-2722.

Morning Star Fishermen
We are a faith based 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization with the mission to help make the world a better and healthier place, by fighting world hunger through education and training. Our primary mission and goal is to build fish farms and training centers to teach the needy how to raise fish and vegetables for themselves. This approach permanently provides an ongoing supply of nutritious food grown by and for each specific community.

Our Fish of Choice is the Tilapia (St. Peter's Fish), one of the most popular fish around the world today. It grows very fast on low protein food, reproduces easily, and is resistance to disease and shock that far exceeds that of most food fish. In addition, tilapia is a very tasty  fish that is high in nutrients and has also shown to be very resistant to contaminants, such as mercury poisoning which is found in many other fish today.

Breaking the Cycle of Hunger Through Aquaculture
Malnutrition is a serious problem in many areas of the world. This is usually due to the unavailability of low cost protein sources. Aquaculture of herbivorous fish provides an excellent, affordable, protein source that can be produced by local fish farms. In addition, wastewater from the fish can be used to raise aquaponic vegetables which in turn can feed the fish, or provide a valuable source of vitamins to the malnourished people. This sustainable environmentally friendly system makes a permanent difference in many lives by giving the malnourished their own source of nutrition, which can be controlled and maintained by a family or community, making them independent and giving them control over their nutritional needs and future. VIP PEST CONTROL

No business like snow business

LAND O' LAKES - Celebrating the holidays in Tampa usually means warm and sunny weather that results in a lot of green beyond the Christmas tree. This year, however, snow could be in the forecast. Well, in a Florida way.  From now until the week of Christmas, VIP Pest Control is offering "snow" service - all without a blizzard or need of a shovel. It's done with paint.  "It (snow) makes it look like Christmas, makes jingle bells a little bit brighter," said Vicki Hutto, owner of the pest control company.  She came up with the idea of "snow" service while watching a football game with friends from New York who said they missed having the white stuff at Christmastime.  "I thought ... if they can paint the football fields white why can't we do that for grass and make it look like snow," she said.  The eco-friendly, water-soluble lawn paint lasts about six weeks. The service starts at $150 to apply. Customers can have their snow sparkle or have organic mosquito repellent added to the application for an additional fee.  To read more: CLICK HERE

Our club was founded with a focus on Rotary and is dedicated to community and international service. At the same time, we know how to have fun. Visitors can feel the fellowship in the room.  Hunter's Green Country Club has extended us a warm welcome and the club manager is a member of our club. The dinner buffet offers a wide variety of delightful dishes for a low cost and is optional.
