Land O Lakes Resident helps Sheriff catch a thief |
|
Betty Stottlar of Land O Lakes was recently the victim of a purse
snatching at our area KMart on Collier Parkway. As Stottlar was getting
into her car on Feb 11, a man in dark clothing and a ski mask approached
her car in broad daylight around 11:15am. Stottlar remained calm after
the purse snatching and paid close attention to the details of the
incident.
She noted the color and type of vehicle, she honed in on the license
plate number and noted whether there were other passengers. She
immediately went inside the store and called the Sheriff. Recalling
important details of her incident, specifically the tag number, she was
able to lead police straight to the suspect. Here are some important
tips you should remember if you are a victim of an incident.
·
Remain calm and make mental notes of important details
·
don't be afraid to scream if someone is trying to rob or harm you
·
Park in lighted areas at night, park in areas where there are people
during the day
·
Conclude cell phone conversations prior to walking to your vehicle &
don't text! Be aware of your surroundings and don't be distracted to
make yourself an easy target
·
If you see something suspicious, report it! Your tips may help solve a
crime
·
Don't fight over your belongings. Your purse, wallet or car is not worth
your life.
·
Call for help immediately

Concert Featuring Wiley Fox |
|
Daughter of Brady Jenkins and Lt. Stacey Jenkins of the
Pasco County Sheriffs Office Detention Bureau, Seven year
old Kaitlyn Jenkins was the Guest of Honor as hundreds from
the community rallied together for a day of fun & fundraising for the 7
year old who is battling an inoperable cancer. The event started with
hundreds of bikers who led the way from Pappas Restaurant on Hwy 54 to
Hwy 41 and ended at the Fraternal Order of Police grounds. Those in
attendance were then treated to Darth Vader and some very scary
sidekicks, plenty of great food, vendors, a Bounce house (where Kaitlyn
spent much of her time) a clown, and ending with an outdoor concert by
Wiley Fox, a local country rock band hailing from Hudson, FL who
entertained the crowd with their awesome vocals. Lead vocalist Jesse
Embry started out the set with "Amy's back in Austin" and gave the crowd
one great song after another for most of the afternoon. For those that
would like to help Kaitlyn and her family with their mounting medical
bills,
an account has been set up at the Suncoast
Schools Federal Credit Union Account #451279600 Kaitlyn
Jenkins. All photo proceeds from this event by OurtownFLA.com will be

aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks, he received a
lot of attention with his singing of "God Bless America", which
he sang at the memorial events for the fallen. This led to an

A Cup of Organic wants to be |
the
community coffee shop
|
|
|
It doesn’t take long to realize that A Cup of Organic, a coffee shop
in Lutz, isn’t your typical place to get a cup of Joe or a fancy
coffee drink.
There’s live music there three nights of the week, free wi-fi and
the menu offers a selection of organic coffees, teas, smoothies,
milkshakes, sandwiches, muffins, cupcakes, cookies and other pastry
items.
It has a clean, contemporary feel – and a relaxed vibe.
It also wants to be more than a place where people rush through to
get their morning java.

Area residents see more in the sky than just the sunrise in the

area, but American Balloons is the only one with a storefront

because it gives customers a place to meet. American Balloons is

people know about our fundraisers that we do for the schools, youth
group, athletic club and still have fun.” Opened in June 2009,

Melissa Ramacco didn’t set out to become a cake pop queen.
It just happened. Now, the Land O’ Lakes woman who drives a van with
a “Got Cake” license tag keeps busy creating her clever confections
for customers of all ages. When Ramacco, the owner of Island Girl
Cakes, began her business she specialized in custom-designed and
decorated cakes.
She got her start in the cake world before shows like Cake Boss, the
Ace of Cakes and DC Cupcakes became the rage. Her foray into the
field, however, was not part of any grand design.
She began simply with a cake expressing a New York Yankees’ theme
that she made for her dad for Father’s Day. The response was
so positive, she decided to begin taking orders to make cakes for
family and friends.

Fun Day for Kids |
|
On Sunday July 25th the Land O'Lakes Moose Lodge had a Kids Fun Day,
this event was held by the Women of the Moose. The event was to
raise funds in support for one of our residents at Mooseheart. We
have adopted a 5 year old “Sunshine Child”. The event on Sunday went
very well, we had refreshments, a dunk tank, face painting,
horseback rides, bounce house and many other games the kids could
play and win prizes.
Also at 1 P.M. we were honored to have Sergeant Armstrong and
Detective Batten from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office who came by
and the lodge donated 24 Tommy Moose, these are stuffed moose given
to children in distress. From 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. we had a Christmas in
July baked goods auction and we also sold raffle tickets for
numerous donations given from people and businesses in the
community. All in all we raised over $1,200.00. A great big thanks
for all of those who participated. |

One man's simple idea
|
saves Pasco County $100,000 |
|
One man who responded to tough economic times by thinking outside of
the box has saved his county tens of thousands of dollars. John
Leucke is in charge of supplies for Pasco Fire and Rescue. He sorts
drugs and medical supplies and ships them out to engines and rescue
vehicles.
While doing his job, he noticed a more efficient and cheap way of
distributing the inventory.
"Each unit is required to carry a certain amount of drugs, so
they were outdating," Leucke said. "And each month we would surplus
these drugs as they outdated." Leucke submitted a drug recycling
idea to the county commission through the county's Cost Savings
Award Program. His idea was approved. |
