Lutz Patriots Speak at Rotary Meeting

Click to Photo Enlarge

Land O Lakes Story by Sheila Tramontana

The Land O Lakes Chapter of Rotary International, a humanitarian organization invited Karen Williams, co-founder of the Lutz Patriots, Sheila Tramontana and Bruce Hockensmith to speak on behalf of the Lutz Patriots educating their members on the organizations purpose. The May meeting held at Rapscallions in Land O Lakes generated much support for the Patriots who send thousands of care packages to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as sending cards and letters of encouragement to promote soldier morale. The Lutz Patriots is a grass roots organization that started when the war began as a result of sisters Karen Williams and Barbara Mueller determined to do something to help those being deployed overseas. Barbara’s son Matt served in the Marines and is now home as Karen’s son Andrew has just left for Navy boot camp in South Carolina.

The Lutz Patriots wave flags in front of the Lutz School House every Friday from 4:30-6 in support of those who serve. All residents are invited to stop by as often as you like and local businesses are encouraged to bring their employees and stop by after work as a group. The Patriots will be holding another packing on May 28 to send more packages and postage is needed! Packages generally average $25-$39 to send overseas so all donations for postage are appreciated. Checks should be made payable to USPostmaster.

Gift cards are also used to purchase needed supplies such as hygiene products, socks, food and snacks. If you are interested in helping the Lutz Patriots, you can contact Barbara at LutzPatriots@aol.com. Pictured are Bruce Hockensmith, Rotary President Pam Johnson, Sheila Tramontana and Karen Williams.
