WCC4Change 52 hours of community

in to service Lacooche

Photos & Story by Elena McCullough

On 19th September we just had 13 WCC4Change members performed 52 hours of community service at a Habitat for Humanity Site in Lacooche.  Habitat needed assistance getting a recently purchased home ready for rehab.  We cleared and cleaned the area.  After all the work is completed the home will become available to those that qualify for homes with Habitat.

Tuesdays we usually have 5-7 volunteers morning or evenings at Helping Hands Food Pantry (9/8, 9/15, 9/22 40+ hours)

Some of our students are also volunteering at Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce. Next month we plan to help Sunrise of Pasco somehow and in November we are trying to help a team planning a cleanup project in a Cementary in Land O Lakes. We usually try to do a large (volunteer event) each month but continually support local sites.

Back to School Youth Picnic

On Saturday, August 29, 2009, Wesley Chapel Community for Change (WCC4Change) hosted a “Back to School” Youth Picnic at the Wesley Chapel District Park for high school students in the local area. Over 80 students and community members enjoyed food, drinks, music and a game of adult vs student kickball! The event promoted volunteerism and encouraged students to get involved in their community. Local organizations were on hand, including Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands Food Bank, Kendrick Meek for Senate, Sunrise of Pasco County and Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce, to answer questions and sign up students to earn community service hours! WCC4Change is a community organization that seeks to empower citizens to improve the quality of life in our community through volunteerism and involvement in social issues.  To become a member or to learn more about WCC4Change, please visit Facebook and Organizing for America or send an email to WCC4Change@gmail.com.

The Vol coordinators that attended the back to school picnic from Helping Hands Food Pantry were Caroline McKenney Ivette & Fitzry Williams and Sheri Goldberg.
