Land O'Lakes 49, Ridgewood 6
Senior Stevie Weatherford enters his senior season looking to surpass older brother Drew as the North Suncoast leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns.

After Friday night it looks like the youngest Weatherford will  give Drew a run for his money after Land O’Lakes defeated  Ridgewood 49-6.  Weatherford started the scoring with a 45-yard strike to Billy Irwin, making the score 7-0. Weatherford showed he had skills on the ground, adding a 35-yard rushing touchdown late in the first quarter for a 13-0 lead. The Gators did show some early-season mishaps, with 180 penalty yards.

Sunlake 43, Wiregrass Ranch 6

Sunlake 43, Wiregrass Ranch 6...The Seahawks ran for 271 and defense also dominated, forcing four Bulls turnovers, how good are these guys?

Friday was the beginning of the high school football season, and nobody seemed more prepared than Sunlake. The Seahawks visited Wiregrass Ranch and walked out with a 43-6 win. Rashaud Daniels got things started for Sunlake scoring from 1 yard out. The Seahawks converted on a two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead and never looked back.Daniels led the team in rushing, with 91 yards on 12 carries and had more touchdowns (three) than the entire Wiregrass. Quarterback Jacob Jackson also chipped with 75 rushing yards. Wiregrass was unable to stop the Seahawks' rushing attack, which totaled 271 yards. Early on Wiregrass looked like it might make a game of it, also scoring on its first drive. Wiregrass quarterback James Tringali completed six of his first seven passes for 50 yards, which included a 5-yard touchdown pass to Nick Lomba. But Tringali but ended up going 3-for-12 the rest of the game.Sunlake's defense also stepped up, forcing four Bulls turnovers, two fumbles and two interceptions.Wiregrass coach Jeremy Shobe said his team needed to play better fundamentally, including protecting the football.

Land O'Lakes Moose Lodge
Fun Day for Kids

On Sunday July 25th the Land O'Lakes Moose Lodge had a Kids Fun Day, this event was held by the Women of the Moose. The event was to raise funds in support for one of our residents at Mooseheart. We have adopted a 5 year old “Sunshine Child”. The event on Sunday went very well, we had refreshments, a dunk tank, face painting, horseback rides, bounce house and many other games the kids could play and win prizes.

Also at 1 P.M. we were honored to have Sergeant Armstrong and Detective Batten from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office who came by and the lodge donated 24 Tommy Moose, these are stuffed moose given to children in distress. From 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. we had a Christmas in July baked goods auction and we also sold raffle tickets for numerous donations given from people and businesses in the community. All in all we raised over $1,200.00. A great big thanks for all of those who participated.

The Midget Lutz Chiefs are ready
for changes for the 2010 Season

Photos and story of this event by Anthony V. Masella Jr. can be found at OurtownFLA.com.

Liberty Middle School 8th grader, Isaiah Cameron battles the heat of the noon day sun and leaves nothing on the field at the Midget Lutz Chief’s practice. The Chiefs hydrate with water and eat bananas for their potassium to avoid muscle cramps.

The Midget Lutz Chief’s Khristian Dec, an 8th grader at Martinez Middle School, races down the field to finish a strong practice. Only the fastest and the toughest make it on the Special Teams, seen here racing down the field.  Head Coach Pat Coackley of the Midget Lutz Chiefs will take his team’s two year 24-2 record and it’s 2009 Super Bowl Trophy and use it as a foundation for his team as they leave the friendly confines of the Pasco Police Athletic League to take a great leap forward into a new league, the Tampa Bay Youth Football League.

The TBYFL, according to their website, began in 1968 and their mission is to provide organized and controlled football and cheerleading program. There is also change coming to the very field Chiefs played on, it will become a baseball field, the baseball field becomes a parking lot and the new football field will hopefully be ready for their first home game against the Town & Country Vikings on August 28. Liberty Middle School 8th grader, Samuel Ford played for an undefeated Plant City team last year and is working hard to get ready for the Lutz Chief’s first game against the Brandon Ravens on August 21.

Land O'Lakes HS Teacher Dr. Dr. Thayer
Plots his comeback to Bodybuilding
"Doc" teaches math and sponsors "Bodybuilders," a club at Land O'Lakes High School.  After retiring from competition in 2000, when he moved here from Miami, Doc had amassed 52 trophies, 6 titles, 1 overall, and had been in FL muscle magazines dozens of times, and once in "Muscle & Fitness"  (Feb. 1998, pp. 234, 236, & 238).  Now 61, training and dieting are back in his regimen, with a "desperate attempt at coming back."  "I need to lose more body fat,"  he said, while making a great distinction between losing weight and losing fat.  "Muscle weighs more than fat.  I don't want to lose muscle, but the metabolism for old geezers like myself slows so much that I have to give up some size to lose fat.  That means no more 1000 calorie jumbo buttered popcorn cups at the movies!"
