Participants received a free Beef O' Brady's kids-meal ticket and enjoyed food, games, fun, and egg hunt. 13,000 plastic eggs filled with candy dropped from a helicopter.
It is our way of saying Happy Easter to our community and
demonstrating our commitment to our neighbors that we
are hear for them. This is our 2nd Year. Last year, we
dropped 11,000 and hard over 800 people attend. This year was even bigger, thanks to the

| Southern Crafted Homes sponsored a Military Appreciation Day to raise money to ship care packages to our troops overseas. “I wanted to help in any way our company could and get the word out about the need for postage money,” said Jim Deitch, chief operating officer of Southern Crafted Homes. “If we can use our influence to help the troops we will because there is only so much the government can provide without the public’s help.” Southern Crafted Homes located in Land O’ Lakes for 20 years, hosted the event at Stone Gate Community, 2830 Sunny Ledge Court in Land O’ Lakes. The group was able to raise over $10,000 for Support Our Troops Inc. in Wesley Chapel. | |||||||||

The event featured a costume contest for your dog - with over $300 in prizes, on site dog adoptions from various non-profit adoption agencies, photos of your dog with the Easter Bunny available for purchase, and a LIVE concert by none other than The Quivering Rhythm Hounds!! The Meadow Pointe Community
Development District held the Grand Opening
of its new fitness center. The
fitness center and park are located at 28245
County Line Road in Wesley Chapel. Commissioner
Pat Mulieri will be cutting the ribbon. This new facility includes a racquetball
court (unique to this area), an 800 square foot
fitness room, an office and a meeting/party
room.
The Grand Opening was being held in conjunction
with the Spring Community Fair. This free event showcases the
talents and products of Meadow Pointe residents
and local vendors. Children who came to the
event with their parents enjoyed a bounce
house, face painting, pony ride, petting zoo,
rock climbing wall, a clown and other
activities.

Academy at the Lakes Head Master Mark Heller announced on March 23 that John Castelamare will be the new Football Coach for the Wildcats. Castelamare has been the Head Football Coach at Wesley Chapel High School since the school opened eleven years ago but had to retire because of the DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Program). Coach Caz, who went to Valdosta Prep School, is really excited about the new opportunity and hopes to expand the Academy at the Lakes football squad from a 6 man team to an 11 man team. What many people don’t realize is that needy children who are smart could have an opportunity to attend the school. He is very impressed with Academy at the Lakes in many respects and looks forward to this new path in his life. His daughters-one a senior at USF, and one a sophomore at FSU are also sports enthusiasts. As far as the Mr. and Ms. Wesley Chapel, which is a popular body building competition, the current and new coaches at Wesley Chapel High School will have to carry on the tradition. Coach Caz not only started with Wesley Chapel High School, he also started with the first senior class at Ridgewood High School and started their popular Mr. and Ms. Ridgewood body building competition. Who knows if the tradition will continue in some format at Academy at the Lakes. But they sure are lucky to land Coach Caz.

The deployment of 30,000 U.S. soldiers to Afghanistan has created a need for everyday items, so Southern Crafted Homes is sponsoring Military Appreciation Day to raise money to ship care packages. “I wanted to help in any way our company could and get the word out about the need for postage money,” said Jim Deitch, chief operating officer of Southern Crafted Homes. “If we can use our influence to help the troops we will because there is only so much the government can provide without the public’s help.” The business, which has had a location in Land O’ Lakes for 20 years, is hosting the event from noon to 4 p.m. March 28 at Stone Gate Community, 2830 Sunny Ledge Court in Land O’ Lakes. Admission to the event is free, but there will be things like food and memorabilia for sale to raise money for Support Our Troops Inc. in Wesley Chapel. |

The hundreds of children who race at Tampa BMX Raceway in Lake Park now have a newly refurnished track to race on “We are recapping the track with fresh clay mixed with binding chemicals to make it like concrete,” said Art Heinrichs, president of Tampa BMX. “That will make the grip better for the racers and prevent erosion during the big race coming up.” The improvements are in preparation for a Gator Nationals race April 9 to 11 at the park, 17302 Dale Mabry Highway. Last year there were 3,500 spectators for the race. This year there will be 1,000 riders and Heinrichs said he expects at least as many people to come and watch. Some of the riders were participants in the 2008 Summer Olympics and many will try and qualify for the 2012 games in London. To read more click: Community News |

The Lutz Patriots joined many
others today near the USMC Reserve facility on Gandy Blvd.
in honoring Marine Corporal Jonathan Porto on his final
journey home to Largo. He lost his life in service to his
country on Sunday, March 14th in Afghanistan. He was
escorted home by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office,
accompanied by off duty military personnel riding
motorcycles and wearing camouflage uniforms. We hope that
we brought some comfort to his family to see everyday
citizens lining the roadside to honor their loved one and
to recognize the ultimate sacrifice that he made for his
country.
One of our Lutz Patriots has a son
that is serving in the same unit to which Corporal Porto was
assigned. I have attached a few pictures that I took at our
location.

A bank robbery suspect — already facing a bank robbery trial in Hillsborough County — was arrested Tuesday night after a six-hour standoff that shut down a stretch of U.S. 41, stranding hundreds of people trying to get home. Patrol cars from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office blockaded U.S. 41 all evening. As dusk fell, crews wheeled out floodlights to illuminate the rural highway. Tito Morell, 34, agreed to surrender just before 9 p.m. — after he finished a cigarette. "Everybody needs a last cigarette," Pasco Sheriff Bob White said. "We don't do smoke breaks in jail..." |

| One man who responded to tough economic times by thinking outside of the box has saved his county tens of thousands of dollars. John Leucke is in charge of supplies for Pasco Fire and Rescue. He sorts drugs and medical supplies and ships them out to engines and rescue vehicles. While doing his job, he noticed a more efficient and cheap way of distributing the inventory. "Each unit is required to carry a certain amount of drugs, so they were outdating," Leucke said. "And each month we would surplus these drugs as they outdated." Leucke submitted a drug recycling idea to the county commission through the county's Cost Savings Award Program. His idea was approved. | ||||

One area was off limits a year ago as the Pasco County School Board
slashed its budget to deal with dwindling state revenue.
The board and Superintendent Heather Fiorentino
steadfastly avoided cuts that would have directly
affected the classroom. This year - with costs increasing and revenue shortfalls looming once again - classroom programs likely won't get such protection. "Nothing is off the table," Fiorentino told the board during a workshop Tuesday. "Last time we said anything that affects students and the classroom is off the table |

| In 8th Grade Middle School Basketball action Pine View MS built up a sizable lead over their crosstown rivals Chuck Rushe MS but could not put them away as Rushe widdled away at the lead till they tied the score and sent the game into overtime. Pine View came back to take the lead and win the game on their home court and finish their season with a 500. average. It was a great game by both teams and a fitting end to a great season of Middle School Basketball | ||||
