Florida Legislature Public Meeting
 on Redistricting in Wesley Chapel

Click:  WTSP.com

Could Tampa Bay get a louder voice in Congress? That was one of the questions tossed at state legislators as they stopped in Wesley Chapel Tuesday night for a forum on redistricting. The Pasco County crowd is concerned about gerrymandering. They don't want political maps drawn like a plate of spaghetti. In fact, the passionate crowd said they're sick of it! "You people are elected to serve the people," one Zephyrhills woman announced into the public microphone. "So, we're here, but we're your bosses." The "bosses" far outnumbered the public servants at Wiregrass Ranch High School with more than 250 people showing up to sound off about fears of an ages old political tactic - gerrymandering.     The population has certainly changed a lot since 2000. All of the new Congressional seats must cover roughly 696,000 people. So, what will all this mean for the Bay area?

The Florida Redistricting Committees have a website to answer many of the questions about the process. They will also accept legislative maps drawn by you! Visit: http://www.floridaredistricting.org/

University Community Hospital's Long Term
Acute Care Hospital at Connerton

UCH's Long Term Acute Care Hospital at Connerton had its 2-year anniversary on March 17th, but celebrated with patients and caregivers on June 23. Patients who had gone through very serious accidents and life threatening illnesses were there that night to celebrate they had come through their ordeal stronger and still full of life. There were dignitaries in the audience; surgeons, nurses and other caregivers on hand, but it was the faces of the patients who had come through difficult times and now with smiles on their faces, could celebrate with their families and those who took such good care of them, that stood out.

LTAC Hospital which started out with a handful of employees in 2009 now has 160 or more employees, mostly Pasco residents themselves. They continue their inspired work with those patients when their need is so great in order for them to come out of their experience both changed for the better.

Juneteenth Celebration by The African
 American Club in West Pasco

The 2011 Juneteenth Celebration sponsored by The African American Club was a mixture of Music art dance and fellowship and just a tad bit of education. Free food was provided thanks to generous donations by  local vendors and businesses. Hundreds of people came out to the Juneteenth Celebration, a family event, marking the arrival of Union troops in Galveston, Texas, on June 18, 1865, to enforce the slavery abolishing Emancipation Proclamation. Activities for the kids included an inflatable bounce house and face painting. The Dorsett Singers entertained and Hip-hop artist Nylahz performed and then gave a motivational speech. Health screenings and a car wash were all part of the festivities.

The event was held at the historic Booker T. Washington school building, a relic of racial segregation in Pasco County public education, dating back to 1924. It is now home to the African American Club. The African American Club not only is seeking landmark status with a historical marker at the former schoolhouse building, but also national recognition for the entire historical community along Pine Hill Road. The African American Club is developing its own website, http://aacpasco.org/ according to Larnelle Scott, president of the African American Club of Pasco and wished to thank Scott and Sondra Hatchett, the Juneteenth celebration chair, for providing a spark for the club. "It's really become re-energized," Daniel Callaghan, a spokesman for the club, said.

Plantation Palms Golf Club Cornhole Tournament for Charity

Story By:  Glenn G. Gefers

New Owner's Jayson Ray, Mitch Osceoh, and Steve Mc Donald of Plantation Palms Golf Club hosted their first annual cornhole tournament on Saturday June 25, 2011 on the driving greens for charity. There sponsors consisted of Ierna's Air, Beef O' Brady's of 54 Land O Lakes, Yuengling, PRP Wine International and Able Copier services. This is going to be a new event that will be held each year during the week of irrigation of the lawns on the golf course.

The event lasted for a good 6 hours with 50/50's and door give away. Gifts ranging from Mc Guire's, Sage Salon, GPS Pools, LifeStyle's, Golf cart Depot and much more. Vendors and sponsors grouped together to help support a very important and local charity (The Pasco County Foster Adoptive Parent Association Inc.).

The new owners of the golf club have a community mission statement they want all to know and that's (A New Attitude) with family and residents on mind where no one is judged just welcomed.  Their new attitude is something they believe strongly in and want their community to know about, from charities of local and far as of one to speak of the Native youth program www.FNGA.com that they build golf courses for all around the U.S. that don't have the privileges of the game.

The thing's that they are looking for in the golf club now is one with the Community, and Change. They will be offering youth programs and seniors, as well as couples golf events. They want to keep things fresh for their community, from their Friday night dinners to events like these and other's.

Change this World Charity event

Wesley Chapel Community

Scene on Glass Media, a Tampa Advertising Company, organized and promoted a very special “Change this World” charity event that was hosted by Wesley Chapel Toyota at their dealership in Wesley Chapel. More than 200 volunteers went to work wrapping and packaging 40, 000 meals that will be shipped to thousands of families in Africa. The meals consisted of nutrients, including oatmeal, rice and vitamin powder that would feed a family of four and be able to be kept for three years without spoiling.

Eric Johnson, director of Corporate & Community Relations gave a rallying cry when the total reached 20,000 meals, in front of people young and old, from all walks of life who came together to help those they knew are in need. They reached their goal of 40,000 by the end of the event

Age was not a factor when it came to who helped package these meals, as can be seen with Lauren Kelly, a petite volunteer who came with her parents to help out.

First Annual Horse Show & Fundraiser Hope Ranch Learning Academy

Hope Youth Ranch hosted it’s first Horse Show and fundraiser to raise money for the wonderful work they do for teenage girls, 11 to 16, who are hurting; but until today’s event I didn’t know they existed. That has changed today. The name H.O.P.E. is an acronym for Helping Overcome Past Experiences. The fourteen bed residential program is a highly structured, faith-based, therapeutic program which also involves remedial education in their in campus, private school, Hope Ranch Learning Academy. The facility is on a 9+acre ranch that provides the space for physical activities, a pool and 8

horses for therapeutic activities and riding fun; their web site enthusiastically states. Some of these teenagers have suffered abuse or other emotional setbacks, which leave them feeling hopeless, but with highly trained staff and their Christian faith, they offer these teens real hope for themselves and their families.
