Republican Club of Central Pasco |
Guest Congressman Rich Nugent |
|
Photos and story of this event by Anthony V. Masella Jr.
|
The Republican Club of Land O'Lakes hosted Congressman Rich
Nugent of the Fifth District of Florida at the Groves Golf
and Country Club in Land O’Lakes. Congressman Nugent says
that a smaller, more efficient government combined with tax
relief for families and small businesses is the key to
getting our economy back on track. He has signed on to the
Fair Tax Bill and is a strong defender of the Second
Amendment. Congressman Nugent supports the House Budget
Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's "Path to Prosperity,"
recently passed. “The Federal Government continues to grow
and grow” said Nugent recalling Ronald Reagan’s words: "A
government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll
ever see on this earth.""One of the reasons I got into
this," he said, "is because of my three sons. My parents
provided a better life for their family, a better
opportunity for their sons to succeed and I want to do the
same for mine by giving our economy the tools to start
moving again." Speaking like a man who spend much of his
adult life in law enforcement Nugent said, "At this point,
it's like a hostage situation, the House GOP leadership must
bring its negotiators and its SWAT team and unlike the last
time, offer no hints about what's off the table”. "When you
give the orders to kick down the door you have to understand
there are things outside our control" he said, “but we
cannot fail to face these issues head on and offer real
solutions to get to solve them. |

Sheila T is a candidate for Lutz Guvna!
|
|
The Guvna Race for Lutz is a light hearted and "the sillier,
the better" attempt to raise money for local small Lutz
charities. The Civic Association promotes this event and
recruits candidates every year around this time to
respectfully run against each other. A traditional GUVNA
debate will be held at the Lutz school house on May 14 from
2-4pm. Although Sheila will give us BREAKING news stories on
her shananigans very soon, she wants us to know she is an
open book and wanted to share a little about her history
here in Lutz. Sheila Tramontana has been a Lutzian for over
28 years, having raised the family she adores here. The
family moved here when Dale Mabry and Lutz Lake Fern was a
two lane road with a 4 way stop! She and her husband of over
30 years started a child care business back in the 80s so
they could spend as much time as possible with their two
sons and daughter as they went through school. "Those were
some of the best memories of my life knowing that I could
provide a safe and happy environment for hundreds of
children to thrive in and look forward to." says Sheila. "We
had parents who would come to pick their kids up and their
children would tell them, NO go home and come back later!"
Sheila was able to attend every function her children had at
their own schools and was able to enjoy seeing them develop
friendships among the other students she served. Sheila was
Team Mom for multiple years when her sons AND daughter
played at Lutz Little League just minutes from home. Working
many a shift in the concession stand, helping with
fundraising and pitching in wherever she could help. Her
family made lifelong friends there that they still stay in
touch with today. Her husband Robert served on the Board for
several years and umpired when he wasn't coaching one of
three teams. Sheila even helped coach T-Ball for a few years
when her daughter was old enough to play. Robert has
serviced the community loyally for almost 20 years
with his company Robert's Complete Lawncare. Sheila's
is very proud of her children who have been in the news
several times with their sporting activities. All her
children fish competitively on a professional team and her
son, Robert is a licensed charter fishing Guide. Her son
Matt and daughter Melissa drag race competitively and Matt
has led the Driver Points in his class since the season
began in January. Daughter Melissa was the only female drag
racer in her class in the top 10 last season. Sheila was a
member of the Lutz Patriots and bonded instantly with
Founders Barbara Mueller and her sister Karen...She strongly
supports those of the military and does her best to find
time to do what she can for them. Read More
Having developed a love for photography and writing
during her high school years, she began tinkering with the
idea of starting her own photography business which didn't
happen until well after she closed her Preschool and worked
elsewhere for almost ten years. Just as she was ready to
begin working her business more seriously, her mother in law
was diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease and she and her
husband moved her in with them to care for her. As a full
time caregiver since 2006, she has placed her life on hold
to get her mom in law through the mid stages of the disease.
Providing much the same environment as she did for the
children of her Preschool, therapeutic activities which
stimulate the brain and activities that promote dignity and
self-esteem provided a quality of life that her mother in
law Violet, needed during that period. She has learned so
much about the disease and its affects on families,
especially the primary caregiver that she has begun speaking
on the topic and is preparing to launch her own Foundation
which will help support all Caregivers in a position of
caring for another person with a debilitating disease. The
Altruism Foundation is also a Foundation which will focus on
the needs of the community and its residents and will help
whenever needed. On the lighter side, Sheila has chosen to
take on the Guvna candidacy to help promote local businesses
and raise money for charities in the hometown she loves.
Please help support Sheila during the next few months of the
campaign with your donations and help her accomplish her
goal of raising more money than anyone to win the Guvna race
which will be announced July 4 at the parade. Follow Sheila
through her journey here on OurtownFLA.com and on her
facebook page, Sheila T for Lutz Guvna! You will see
Sheila all around town wearing her purple sash in honor of
her mom in law which says Guvna Wannabe. Say hello and
donate if you can to support your community! |

Help Wade Beat Cancer |
Fundraising Events |
|
Wade has always been
such a joy to be around, family and friends. He is always the one to
make anyone smile and never judge a book by the cover. He has made so
many friends throughout his childhood that have grown a deep friendship
and connection with him that they will never forget. Once you meet Wade,
you never forget that bright white glowing smile or that loving laugh of
his that could turn any bad day good. Wade had a tumor removed the end
of March 2011. A couple days later he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon
cancer. He was then informed that it had spread to his bladder,
intestines and lymph-nodes. At 23 years old, Wade, was in disbelief.
Unfortunately, this devastating news was true and he knew he had to be
strong. He was released from the hospital on March 31st and that day
began his long journey to fight this cancer and beat it. Unable to work
while undergoing chemotherapy, his friends and family have rallied
around him to support him by organizing fundraising events so Wade can
focus on his health. As a community, we at OurtownFLA.com encourage you
to do what you can to help a fellow neighbor in need. A benefit will be
held on May 14 at USF (details on our event calendar) and several car
washes at major intersections will be held in our communities this
weekend. Every ounce of support helps. Wade could be your son, or
brother or friend. Let's beat this cancer and lift Wade up so he has the
strength to become a survivor! Visit Wade's website to donate and
offer your support.

In Just Ten Weeks,
Thirteen Outstanding Individuals Raise Nearly $365,000 for Lifesaving
Cancer Research
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Suncoast Chapter Announces Local
2011 Man & Woman of the Year
APRIL 13, 2011 — A Hillsborough County woman and a Pasco County man
raised more than $119,500 for blood cancer research and patient
services, making them the winners of this year’s Man & Woman of the Year
for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Suncoast Chapter.
The two winners, Greg Lenners, General Manager of The Shops at
Wiregrass, and Nicole Scannell, Owner of Scannell Productions, were
announced the top local fundraisers at the Grand Finale Gala, Saurday,
April 9, 2011 at The Hyatt Regency Downtown after accepting their
nomination nearly ten weeks ago at the official kickoff celebration at
Michael Murphy Gallery in South Tampa.
All thirteen candidates were judged solely on their success in
generating funds to advance the mission of LLS. In this campaign, every
dollar raised counts as one “vote.” The candidates competed in honor of
the Society’s Boy of the Year, 5-year old, Stevie Monokandios and Girl
of the Year, 3 year-old, Lucila Galban. Both children are blood cancer
survivors and sources of inspiration to our candidates and supporters in
the community.
Man and Woman of the Year candidates and winners were not alone in their
fundraising efforts! Nicole Scannell, of Tampa, and her husband, Jim
Parker, rose just over $31,000; Greg Lenners, of Wesley Chapel and his
campaign team, consisting of three event chairs and five committee
members, rose over $88,000. “We all worked in the same office and would
communicate daily on the more critical items while continuing to
motivate each other throughout the campaign.” Greg’s impressive total
allows him to move into the national level competition for Man & Woman
of the Year.
“Man & Woman of the Year is a great opportunity for participants to
network with other candidates while raising money for a great cause,”
said Julie Wills, the Suncoast Chapter’s executive director. “Candidates
gain personal and professional exposure in the communities surrounding
Tampa Bay while they help others.”

Ribbon Cutting for Collier Parkway and

Parkway Boulevard Opening |
|
Commissioners Henry
Wilson, Pat Mulieri and Ted Schrader (left) cut the ribbon on the 4.3
million dollar Collier Parkway two mile extension project routing north
bound traffic to Ehren Cutoff that also opens up a back door to the
Dupree Lakes subdivision. Also pictured (right) are are Pasco County
Attorney Jeff Steinsnyder, County Administrator John Gallagher, Dave
Klima of Beazer Homes, builder in the Dupree Lakes subdivision and Bipin
Parikh, Assistant County Administrator.
Jennifer Crosby, Principal of Pine View
Middle School and Judith A. Cosh, Principal of Pine View Elementary
School were delighted that the new road opening will divert traffic away
from their two schools and ease safety concerns.
However, demonstrating
the serious nature of the new intersection at Hale Road and Collier
Parkway, the brown car going east-bound on Hale Road, with a stop sign,
passes in front of the blue car going south-bound on Collier Parkway,
even though the blue car has the right of way with no stop signs. Many
local citizens are concerned that after 20 years of the drivers on
Collier Parkway having to stop and the drivers on Hale Road getting to
drive through, switching stop signs without any traffic lights may be
inviting a major accident. Pasco County Officials said there is a
warrant study under way to determine whether or not a light will be
installed. |

Mary Kay Senior Director |
Earns New Cadillac SRX |
|
Vicki Piccirilli, a Sr Mary Kay
Director just earned her Sixth free car and her Fourth free
Cadillac! Her new 2011 SRX was celebrated at Ed Morse
Cadillac in Tampa this week by Vicki, her Pearls of Promise
Unit and the staff of Ed Morse Cadillac. Vicki
received the keys to a new 2011 Cadillac SRX – in customary
Mary Kay Pink – in recognition for having achieved Mary
Kay’s “Cadillac Level” sales award.
“For more than forty years, the Mary Kay Pink Cadillac has
been an iconic symbol of success,” said Karen Barrese, Sales
Consultant at Ed Morse Cadillac in Tampa. Read More
“As such, it’s the most sought-after prize
among Mary Kay’s two-million independent sales force
members. Our team here at Ed Morse Cadillac Tampa is honored
to play a role in carrying on the tradition of rewarding
success, which is what Cadillac is all about.”
Founder Mary Kay Ash was a big believer in rewarding top
independent sales force members with cars, dream vacations,
diamonds and other lavish items she often referred to as
“Cinderella gifts.” Among these, the most iconic and
enduring symbol of an independent sales force member’s
success is the Mary Kay Pink Cadillac, which was the
brainchild of Mary Kay Ash herself back in 1969.
The delivery of Vicki’s prestigious award was accompanied by
a brief ceremony, which included the unveiling of her
all-new SRX, and was attended by several close friends,
family as well as colleagues from the local Mary Kay sales
unit.
“Earning the Mary Kay Pink Cadillac is a major event in the
life and career of a Mary Kay independent sales force
member,” said Karen Barrese. “It’s our privilege at Ed Morse
Cadillac Tampa to help celebrate that achievement.”
Piccirilli started
her Mary Kay career in January, 2004 and debuted as a Sales
Director a year later in March, 2005. She earned her first
Mary Kay career car in January 2005, her second Mary Kay
career car in May 2005 and the prestigious Pink Cadillac in
September, 2005, an amazing accomplishment of three cars in
just nine months. Piccirilli and her "Pearls of Promise"
unit finished the year as the #1 debuting unit in their
class. They also earned the Top Sales Director trip to Costa
Del Sol, Spain in their first full year as a unit together.
Since then, Piccirilli and her unit have been in the Circle
of Achievement every year. She has also been on the Queens
Court of Sales and was on the Queens Court of Sharing for
the second time this year, last year as #3 in the entire
Pearl Seminar. Piccirilli has earned over 19 carats in
diamonds from her Mary Kay business and has just earned her
6th free car, her 4th Pink Cadillac, the SRX. She has one
first line offspring Director, Melissa Olsheski, who just
earned her FIRST free car from Mary Kay which will be
rolling in June. Piccirilli's unit meets in Lutz at 1532
Land O Lakes Blvd in Suite C on Thursday nights and new
guests are always welcome. If you would like to know more
about the Mary Kay career path, or would like to attend a
Thursday night meeting, you can speak with Piccirilli at
813-997-3560 to attend as a guest. Piccirilli was a full
time stay at home Mom before starting her Mary Kay career
and was still able to continue raising her family while she
grew her business. Piccirilli says that the lifelong
friendships she has created through Mary Kay are worth more
to her than all her earnings. She is grateful that her Mary
Kay business gives her the opportunity
to enrich women’s lives and earn a corporate income while
keeping her priorities of God first, family second and
career third. She is passionate about sharing all that God
has done through her and for her through the Mary Kay
opportunity.
Vicki Piccirilli was born in London, England and moved to
Florida when she was just seven years old. She graduated
from USF with a Bachelor Degree in Biology. Her "advice" to
women starting their own businesses is to "Work like
everything depends on you and pray like everything depends
on God!"

TRAVERSE Horse Show |
Coming up at Lake Park |
|
TRAVERSE (Trauma Resolution
And Victims’ Essential Recovery Services) was originally incorporated as
a Florida Not-for-Profit Corporation in August of 1993. They will be
hosting a family fun horse show on April 16 at Lake Park beginning at
10am. The event will consist of Barrel racing, poles, flag race,
keyhole, texas barrels and pony express. Enter all events for $25 for
free to watch! Come out and support TRAVERSE. Read More about their
program: TRAVERSE is a program of experiential group
therapy which works with an equestrian theme to assist children in the
healing process from trauma or loss. Horsemanship provides the context
and motivation for group treatment which integrates relationship,
developmental, cognitive, behavioral, trauma, and group theory.
The program is specifically designed to meet the needs of children who
have been physically, sexually, or emotionally abused, or children who
have lost family to death or divorce. Empowerment is the hallmark of
healing from victimization and managing a 1,000 pound horse at a lope is
undeniably empowering. Beginning in 1994 TRAVERSE started providing
services to individual children who had been referred by a local mental
health agency. While each of the children had been diagnosed as severely
disturbed and treatment had been initiated in a traditional mental
health setting, the children’s persistent opposition to, or refusal of,
this treatment, rendered it useless. After a year of working in an
accepting, supportive, and challenging environment with horses, each of
these children showed significant improvement in family adjustment, and
school performance. Additionally, they each attended a community horse
show and ribboned. This success was the catalyst for the implementation
of a formal, group program in 1996 with similar positive results. In
May, 2008, the “Storm Riders” were the 20th group to graduate from the
program.
Over the years, TRAVERSE has spent much time and effort in
professionalizing its program. Organizational tasks, such assecuring a
501(c)3 from the Internal Revenue Service and tax-exempt status from the
state were important first steps. TRAVERSE attained the status of a
NARHA PREMIER ACCREDITED CENTER in 2002. To learn more visit

The 3 man team of Rick Doerr,
Hugh Freund and Tampa resident Brad Kendell is sponsored by

preparation for the 2012 Paralympic games to be held in London,
England. Team USA674 consists of three men with indomitable spirits
who have quite a resume of accomplishments. Read More:
They were recently
named February Team of the Month by the Alphagraphics US Olympic
Committee
The Sonar team of Rick Doerr, Hugh Freund and Brad Kendell compete
in a 3 person open keelboat class and had a stellar February of
competition with two back-to-back events. In the St Petersburg, FL
N.O.O.D. Regatta, they finished second among a fleet of 10 competing
boats, both able-bodied and disabled sailing teams. They missed the
gold by one point after three days of racing. The following week,
they won the inaugural Sail to Prevail Paralympic Regatta in St.
Petersburg, which featured the top American and Canadian Paralympic
hopefuls. During the 10-race series, the racing was extremely close
among the top U.S. Sonar teams (all are members of US Sailing Team
AlphaGraphics), but it was their consistency that brought home the
victory. In January in Miami, FL, spectacular wind and sunny skies
were the backdrop for day 5 of racing at US SAILING’s Rolex Miami
OCR. In the final day of racing for Paralympic courses Rick
Doerr, Brad Kendell and Hugh Freund were top Americans in the Sonar
class, ending the regatta in 4th overall. Brad Kendell, a Tampa
native who attended USF and Clearwater High School has been a member
of the
US SAILING TEAM ALPHAGRAPHICS since 2007
and was a member of the
2010 US
SAILING's Paralympic Team of the Year.
Brad also
fishes competitively and was an angler fishing for the KHS & S
Construction team in 2008 when they won the Professional Tarpon
Tournament in Boca Grande in Week 4 and also competed in the 2008
Red Bull Flugtag in Tampa. His sailing team also finished 1st
in the 2009 America Regatta and the 2010 Sperry NOOD in St Pete. He
has competed in Greece in the IFDS World Championships as well as
traveling across the US. OurtownFLA.com would like for everyone to
